Westport police raid local smoke shop, seize many THC products; shop not licensed for cannabis sales

WESTPORT — Police executed a search warrant at a local smoke shop Tuesday and said they found a significant number of illegal THC products.

The store, the Savvy Smoker on Post Road East, does not hold a cannabis dispensary, hybrid retailer, retailer or delivery service license from the state Department of Consumer Protection, Lt. Jillian Cabana said in a statement Wednesday.

Westport police detectives started an investigation into the shop after receiving several community complaints regarding the sale of illegal substances, according to Cabana.

Along with agents from the DCP’s Drug Control Division, investigators searched the shop’s premises and seized hundreds of jars of prerolled marijuana cigarettes, also known as joints, and vape cartridges; containers of concentrated resin; synthetic cannabinoids; dozens of packages of THC gummies; marijuana; and packaging materials, Cabana said.

“The concentration of THC in many of the products exceeded the limit allowed in a hemp product and/or were not in child or tamper-resistant packaging,” she said.
