Local artists channel experience for 15th annual Bridgeport Art Trail

Artist Will Corprew of 80 By Design hangs his mixed media mural “Bpt at Night” in the NEST Arts Factory in preparation for the 15th annual Bridgeport Art Trail’s Cityside Open Studios celebration, in Bridgeport, Conn. Nov. 10, 2023.

BRIDGEPORT — Suzanne Kachmar, the executive director of City Lights Gallery, has spent many years of her life curating events to support the art scene in Bridgeport.

City Lights organizes the annual Bridgeport Art Trail event, which has been Kachmar’s passion project for 15 years and presents various art forms by connecting with artists and bringing them into the heart of the city.

“It promotes the creative potential of Bridgeport,” Kachmar said. “We hear a lot of negative stories about Bridgeport and this is a positive story and is even a way to express hardship in a positive way.”

The art trail will include a Citywide open studio arts celebration this
weekend where attendees can meet over 200 artists showcasing their work
at over 36 locations on the trail map.

This
year’s theme is “Thoughts and Prayers,” which the artists were free to
interpret in both a metaphorical and literal sense as a reflection of
what’s occurring in today’s society.
